Compassionate Flow Yoga at Exeter Community Centre

Mixed ability weekly yoga class in Exeter: beginners to yoga and experienced yogis are welcome!

ABOUT THE CLASS:

Compassionate Flow Yoga is a blended approach that integrates compassion-focused therapy (CFT) approaches and techniques with yoga. The focus is on developing kind and supportive intentions and motivations to move us away from negative and unhelpful mind states.

WHAT TO EXPECT:

The class includes yoga asana (shapes, postures, movement, body work), breathing practices, visualisation and imagery techniques, and guided relaxation. The class runs on a 4-weekly cycle and draws upon vinyasa flow yoga where movement is linked with the breath. The classes focus on a range of themes including body and mind energising, balance, and strength to lift mood, relieve stress, reduce anxiety, and boost self-confidence.

On week one of the month, there is a request show. Weeks two and four focus on exploration of the Ashtanga Vinyasa primary series (week two: standing sequence; week four: seated sequence). Week three is general vinyasa flow yoga.

Compassionate Slow Yoga: live online class

Monthly live online yoga class: open to all levels of experience, all are welcome!

ABOUT THE CLASS:

Compassionate Slow Yoga is also a blended approach that integrates compassionate intentions and motivations with yoga. The class draws upon concepts and techniques from compassion-focused therapy to offer a supportive and inclusive psychology-enhanced yoga space. The focus on developing kind and friendly wishes and motivations towards oneself and others is designed to help move us away from negative and unhelpful mind states.

WHAT TO EXPECT:

The class includes a combination of yoga asana (stretches, shapes and postures), breathing practices, visualisation and imagery techniques, and guided relaxation within a compassionate framework and intention setting. The theme of this yoga class is to invite a sense of slowing down in body and mind through exploring stillness in yoga stretches. Compassionate Slow Yoga is a class to help us restore our body and mind and access restfulness. The class will mostly be focused on floor-based yoga postures, and having extra supports nearby can be helpful to remain safe in the stretches (e.g., a rolled up blanket or cushions, any yoga props such as blocks, bricks, or bolsters, access to the use of a wall, extra layers of clothing or a blanket to stay warm).

BOOKING DETAILS:

Pre-booking online only. You are able to book an individual class and drop-in to the monthly yoga space which costs £7.50 per session. This class is not included in the class pass option meaning that class passes cannot be redeemed for this class.

You are able to reserve and purchase a space in the class using the bookings page. Once you have booked onto the yoga class, you will receive an email with an invitation to join the live online yoga class via videoconferencing (MS Teams). The email with the link to the online class will be sent to you on the day of the session.
